Well, the Church of Scientology is at it again. This time they are prosecuting a boy in England for using the world “cult” to describe the of Scientology. It says that the teenaged boy participated in the protests against Scientology and was confronted by police there telling him that he could not use that word. The boy didn’t back down quoting someone who once said that Scientology was a sinister and dangerous cult and the cops and the Church of Scientology decided to prosecute this teenaged boy for calling their religion a cult because it is “abusive.”
Could you possibly cry any louder? Scientology espouses a belief in crushing opposition and this is one of the ways that they do it, by manipulating judicial systems into suing and prosecuting people that speak out against them. They don’t give a shit about freedom and they do want all voices against them silenced because they are in fact a dangerous cult. Even Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t KILL and hurt the people who speak against them.
For a religion that teaches that they are the last surviving hope for mankind Scientologists certainly go out of their way to destroy the lives of the people who are opposed to them. When you are a group of superheroes that are trying to save the world the villainous people who would dare talk about your religion, its organization, and its practices are fair game right?
Enough about Scientology though, what about the prosecutors that think that this is an okay thing to do? Aren’t lawyers supposed to be the ones who try to protect everyone’s rights? Scientology had a right I suppose to defend itself from violence or something of that nature but all of the protests against it recently have been of the peaceful variety. You don’t have the right to defend yourself legally from someone’s opinion. Doesn’t England have a tradition of free speech?
I know that sometimes our heads get caught in the mess of everything that is going on but I think that this is a shining example of how quickly the world can get out of hand. If they say that you cannot use the word “cult” during a protest, who is to stop them from banning other words as well? Before you know it, even peaceful protest is going to be illegal.
It sickens me to think that the Church of Scientology and the judicial system of England have a chance here to ruin a kid’s life for protesting the documented dangerous activities of the Church of Scientology. I for one am writing an email to the Crown Prosecution Service that is handling this case and I would suggest that all of you do the same. I’ll post my email to them later on.
